Who we Are:
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach was established in 1984 as the social service arm of the Palm Beach Diocese. The agency serves more than 10,000 clients each year throughout the Palm Beach Diocese which includes the counties of Palm Beach, St. Lucie, Indian River, Martin and Okeechobee. Catholic Charities currently provides services through 13 programs and ministries. Areas of service provision include disaster recovery, guardianship of incapacitated seniors, homeless prevention, transitional housing, prison ministry, pregnancy care, disaster recovery, immigration legal services, refugee services, and long-term case management to human trafficking victims. Catholic Charities is accredited annually by Nonprofits First. Our 13 programs and ministries include:

Board Commitment Q & A
Is there a vetting process?
Yes. All prospective board members undergo vetting to include a background check to ensure alignment with Catholic Charities mission, vision and values, as well as an interview with our CEO and Board President. All Board members are presented to the full board for a nomination and vote before onboarding.
How many Board Meetings will I be expected to attend?
All Board Members must be able to meet the basic requirements of Board service. This means, at a minimum, preparing for and attending as many as 6 board meetings throughout the year (1 meeting every other month). the minimum time involvement is approximately 26 hours per year.
Outside of participation in board meetings, what are the key board member responsibilities?
- Governance and oversight
- Promote agency mission, vision, values
- Promote and monitor strategic plan goals
- Financial stewardship
- Fundraising and Advocacy
- Monitor agency and program performance and quality improvement data
How long are Board terms?
Board Members commit to a term of 3 years, and can serve no more than 2 consecutive terms. A 1 year break is required in-between consecutive terms.
Will I be expected to join a committee?
Yes. Board Members are expected to serve on at least one board committee that will meet a minimum of once annually. Committees include executive, personnel, finance, nominating, development, strategic planning, performance and quality improvement, and audit.
Is there a fundraising requirement?
Our Board has a revenue strategy based on raising funds from individuals, corporations, and grants/foundations. While we do not have a minimum contribution requirement, Catholic Charities needs Board Members who are able to "give or get" by making donations themselves or assisting with soliciting donations from others.
