Catholic Charities is thankful for the continued generous support from The Jim Moran Foundation in caring for vulnerable seniors in our Elder Affairs Program. Since 1978, Catholic Charities' Elder Affairs Program has been providing guardianship and case management services to the most vulnerable elderly members of our community, irrespective of race or religion. Since it began over 40 years ago, this program has provided compassionate, comprehensive guardianship services to hundreds of elderly individuals and their families. The Jim Moran Foundation awarded an additional $50,000 grant in November of 2023 to provide compassionate care and a safety net for vulnerable seniors in Palm Beach County.
Every 5 seconds, an elderly person is abused. Only about 7 percent of elder abuse gets reported to authorities. Two-thirds of elder abuse cases involve family members and exploitation is often the cause of this horrific crime against members of our community who deserve the utmost care. Many elderly people are not able to manage their personal and financial affairs and do not have a local family member or friend to help. Our dedicated professionals provide services to local elderly individuals who lack the financial resources to provide for the necessities of life and become vulnerable to exploitation, abuse, and neglect. This vital program delivers services that deal with the realities of human suffering and advocate for justice for elderly people burdened with poverty and the effects of social indifference.
The Foundation's current funding focuses include elder care programs that improve the quality of life for seniors in our community. The mission of The Jim Moran Foundation is to improve the quality of life for the youth and families of Florida through the support of innovative programs and opportunities that meet the ever-changing needs of the community.
