Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach Receives $50,000 Grant from Kingdom Charitable Trust to Support Human Trafficking Survivors

Riviera Beach, FL – November 2024 – Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach is pleased to announce the receipt of a generous $50,000 grant from the Kingdom Charitable Trust to support its Bakhita Empowerment Program, a crucial initiative dedicated to assisting survivors of human trafficking. The grant will specifically fund housing supports for victims, helping to ensure that these individuals have access to safe, stable, and supportive living environments as they work toward rebuilding their lives.

The Bakhita Empowerment Program, named after St. Josephine Bakhita, a former slave who became a revered Catholic saint, provides comprehensive services to individuals rescued from human trafficking, including case management, legal assistance, counseling, employment training, and, most critically, housing. This support helps victims transition from crisis to stability, offering them the tools and resources they need to regain autonomy and begin the process of healing.

Human trafficking continues to be a pervasive issue, with victims often subjected to physical, emotional, and psychological abuse. For many survivors, securing stable housing is one of the most significant barriers to recovery. With this funding, Catholic Charities will be able to expand its housing services and offer a safe, supportive environment where survivors can heal and rebuild their lives.

With the support of the Kingdom Charitable Trust, Catholic Charities continues to provide vital services to individuals and families in need across the Diocese of Palm Beach. The organization is committed to advocating for the dignity and rights of every person, particularly those most vulnerable, including survivors of human trafficking.
