Catholic Days at the Capital: A Testament of Faith and Advocacy

In a powerful display of faith and community, Catholic volunteers from the Diocese of Palm Beach gathered March 18-20, 2025 for an inspiring journey at Catholic Days at the Capital, led by Deanna Herbst Hoosac, the Respect Life Ministry Director at Catholic Charities. This annual event, held amidst the corridors of power in our state capital, serves as a beacon of hope and advocacy for the values cherished by the Catholic community.

Unity in Purpose

The cohort of volunteers, driven by their shared commitment to Catholic principles, embarked on a mission to voice their beliefs on critical social issues. From defending the sanctity of life at all stages to advocating for social justice and solidarity, each participant brought a unique perspective and fervor to the discussions.  Volunteers attended a legislative briefing on policy issues affecting human life and dignity and attended pre-scheduled meetings with lawmakers, giving them the opportunity to view the legislative process in action.  They attended an awards breakfast with Florida's bishops and legislators and prayed the Rosary led by the bishops of Florida.  In addition to the legislative events, the 50th Annual Red Mass of the Holy Spirit was celebrated by the bishops of Florida to pray for those working in the legislative, judicial and executive branches of government on the evening of March 19, the feast of St. Joseph.

Impactful Engagement

Throughout the event, the volunteers exemplified the core values of compassion, service, and community outreach that define the Catholic faith. Their participation underscored the importance of civic engagement and the duty to advocate for those whose voices may not always be heard.

A Call to Action

As they returned to their communities in the Diocese of Palm Beach, the volunteers carried with them a renewed sense of purpose. Inspired by their experiences at Catholic Days at the Capital, they are poised to continue their advocacy efforts, fostering positive change and upholding the values that guide their faith.

Catholic Days at the Capital, under the leadership of Deanna Herbst Hoosac and with the steadfast dedication of volunteers from the Diocese of Palm Beach, stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith-based advocacy. It is a reminder that by coming together in unity and purpose, we can strive to create a more just and compassionate society, reflecting the teachings of Christ in our actions and words.
